In 1961, David H. Russel published an article entitled, "reading Research that Makes a Difference." In it, he chronicled 10 studies that he claimed had significatly influenced the  "curriculum in reading and realted area" (p.74). He also explained why these  studies had been significant. Later, Harry Singer (1970, 1976) published two rejoiners to this article.
