Cool Website: Voice of Literacy

Easy blog today... I just have a resource link that might be of interest to you. It it a website, Voice of Literacy, operated by Dr. Betsy Baker of the University of Missouri-Columbia. She keeps track of what is appearing in major journals such as Reading Research Quarterly and Journal of Literacy Research and then conducts interviews with some of the study authors and posts these to her site. You can listen to them online or download them for later listening. A great way to keep up with recent research and to get some background on new studies.

Here is the upcoming schedule:
The discussions tend to be 10-15 minutes in length and a new one appears every two weeks. Upcoming audios include:
January 17 Dr. Renita Schmidt and Dr. Kathy Whitmore
The Language of Struggle in Search of Hope for Teachers
See Journal of Literacy Research, 42(4)

February 7 Dr. Rebekah Benjamin
Text Complexity and Oral Reading Prosody in Young Readers
See Reading Research Quarterly, 45(4)

February 21 Dr. Mary Christianakis
“I Don’t Need Your Help!” Peer Status, Race, and Gender during Peer Writing Interactions
See Journal of Literacy Research, 42(4)
