What's up in Head Start Literacy

Tuesday, the Early Ed Watch Blog quoted me in a story that they published on the literacy emphasis of Head Start programs. It was part of a series on Head Start that they have been publishing recently. The writer, Linda Guernsey, reveals the kind of hand wringing some of our colleagues do about emphasizing reading in the early years. But she also shows the positive benefits that are starting to accrue from such efforts.

My role? I was pushing for more teacher preparation in literacy at the preschool level. This kind of teaching can be effective, but teachers need to know how to do it, and that is a gap in our system.
